What is the secret to Healthy hydrated summer skin?
As the summer sun shines and temperatures are higher than normal, its essential to take extra care of your skin and maybe tweak your normal skincare regimen. Heat, humidity and increased sun exposure can quickly dehydrate your skin, leaving it looking dull and feeling dry.
Here are a few tips to keep your skin hydrated and glowing for the summer months.
My #1 tip is use sunscreen and reapply every two hours when exposed to daylight, especially when swimming and sweating. I like and recommend mineral broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, this protects from UVA/UVB rays.
2. Incorporate Hydrating serums. Using a hydrating serum provides an extra layer of moisture. Look for serums with hyaluronic acids, glycerin, natural oils and B5, which all help to seal in and draw moisture to the skin.
3. Avoid hot showers and baths.....as good as they feel, hot water is really not beneficial. Hot baths and showers strip the natural oils from the skin leaving it dehydrated, lukewarm water is a better choice. Always apply a natural organic moisturizer after bath and shower time best when the skin is still damp.
4. Drink plenty of water, hydration starts from within. Drinking plenty of water is key, always 8 glasses a day, but if your activity level is high you will definitely need to drink more. Avoid or limit drinking dehydrating beverages like soda, caffeine and alcohol.
5. This is a good time of year to reevaluate your moisturizer. A lot of my clients switch up their moisturizer in the summer and winter months.
6. Facials! It is the time for vacation, but don't take a vacation from facial treatments! Professional facials are essential to the health of your skin. Exfoliating and replacing nourishment to your skin is so important. Summer time is when I like to set skincare goals and map out a plan with my clients for the remainder of year.
I hope these simple tips find their way into your skincare routine. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions... this is my passion and I love to help!
Happy, Happy Summer..... See you soon!
